In this article, you’ll learn the difference between the Now and Today sections, why data may be missing, and what steps to take to make sure your measurements appear correctly.
Now data
The Now section shows real-time data, based on what your watch is measuring at that moment. Each card links to more details on the Timeline screen.
Vitals include:
Heart Rate (HR): Beats per minute
Activity: Time since your last movement
Steps: Steps taken today and in the past hour
Motion: Movement intensity (iOS only)
The color of each card reflects your current state in the Reactivity Monitor.
When Now data appears
They show when all these conditions are met:
You are wearing the watch at that moment
The sensors are lighting up as expected and collecting data correctly
Your watch is connected to the app
When will the Now data not appear
You are connected but aren't currently wearing your watch
You aren't connected
Steps to take if Now data isn't showing
1. Wear your NOWATCH correctly
The crown should point at 8 o’clock
Wear the watch snugly above your wrist bone.
Avoid a strap that is too loose or too tight
Especially during an activity, make sure the watch stays in contact with your skin
Before going to sleep, make sure the strap is secure. You naturally move during the night, and a loose fit can affect sensor contact.
2. Allow time for syncing
When you open the app, keep the Now screen open until the sync bar at the top completes. Data will only appear once syncing is finished.
If you’re connected but syncing is still in progress, you may see dashes instead of values, and the Reactivity Monitor may be temporarily unavailable. This is expected behavior.
Once syncing is complete, your Reactivity Monitor, Vitals, and Metrics should appear automatically.
3. Check your connection
In the app:
Look for a green circle at the top right of the Now screen.
Tap the watch icon at the top right of the Now screen. The status should say Connected.
In your phone’s Bluetooth settings:
Your NOWATCH serial number should be listed.
An information icon (i) should appear next to it.
4. Check that the sensors are active
When the watch is in contact with your skin, the green LED lights on the back of your watch should be visible. This confirms the sensors are working.
If the sensors' green LED lights do not turn on, the device isn't collecting any data.
If the sensors' lights are off:
Your watch may be out of battery. Ensure it's charged.
Force close the app, and reopen it. Check the sensors.
-
Use the charger to activate the sensors:
- Place your NOWATCH on the charger for 30 seconds.
- Remove from the charger
- Check if the sensors briefly light up, even without skin contact.
-
Reboot your NOWATCH:
- Force close the app
- Ensure your watch is on your wrist
- Press the crown for 12 seconds until you feel a vibration
- Check if the sensors light up again
5. Reopen the app
If data still doesn’t appear:
Fully close the NOWATCH app
Reopen it and wait for syncing to finish
Today data
The Today section gives you an overview of your daily health data. This isn't real-time data, but data recorded during the day. Each card links to the detailed charts on the Overview screen.
When Today data appears
This data will show if you meet one of the following:
You wore the watch earlier in the day and are still connected
You logged an activity, even if you’re not wearing your watch now
When Today data will not appear
You are connected, but did not wear your watch at any point during the day and did not log activity or sleep
You are not connected, haven't worn the watch, and have not logged any activity
Steps to take if Today data isn't showing
1. Check that your watch collected data earlier
Data only appears if:
You wore your NOWATCH at some point that day, or
You logged an activity manually
If the watch was not worn at all and no activity was logged, the Today cards will remain empty.
2. Confirm your connection
Even if you are not currently wearing the watch, the app still needs to be connected to display earlier data.
In the app:
Look for the green connection circle at the top of the Now screen
Open Device Details (watch icon) and confirm the status shows Connected
In Bluetooth settings:
Check that your NOWATCH serial number is listed and the information icon next to it is showing
3. Allow time for syncing
When you open the app:
Keep the Now tab open for at least one minute
Wait until the sync bar completes
Closing the app too quickly can prevent Today data from updating. Once syncing is complete, all the data found on your Now tab should show.
4. Reopen the app
If data still doesn’t appear:
Fully close the NOWATCH app
Reopen it and wait for syncing to finish
