How step count is measured

The NOWATCH device estimates the number of steps you take throughout the day. In addition to your total daily step count, it also tracks how your movement is distributed across the day, showing steps in half-hour intervals.

This helps you understand not only how much you move, but also when you’re most active.

Where to find your step count

You can view your step data in several places:

• Timeline screen

  • At the top of the Steps chart: your total daily step count

  • Within the graph: steps recorded in each half-hour period throughout the day

• Now screen

  • Under Vitals: your total steps for today, shown in real time

  • Under Vitals: steps taken in recent hours, updated live while wearing the watch

Understanding step count differences

Step counts can vary between devices, as each device uses its own method to detect movement. Differences are common and expected.

Several factors can influence step detection, including:

• Arm position during activities (for example, pushing a stroller or using a treadmill desk)

• How and when a device is worn

• Differences between wearables and non-wearables (such as comparing NOWATCH data to your phone)

These variations can add up over the course of a day and may result in noticeable differences when comparing step counts across devices.
