Sleep Metrics

Your sleep plays a significant role in your overall well-being, and NOWATCH helps you gain insights into different aspects of your sleep.

These are the current sleep metrics available under the Overview screen:

  1. Sleep Duration

  2. Sleep Stages

  3. Sleep Regularity

  4. Awakenings

  5. Sleep Heart Rate Variability (HRV)

Sleep Duration

Sleep Duration is the total amount of time you slept last night. Most adults need between 7 and 9 hours, but individual needs vary. Sleep requirements can change throughout life.

Keep in mind that more sleep is not necessarily better, oversleeping can sometimes be counterproductive.

Your 'Typical' sleep duration represents your average sleep duration over time.

Sleep Stages

Your sleep is made up of four stages: Light, REM, Deep, and Awake — each playing a different role in how rested you feel.

  • Light sleep helps your body start to relax and makes up the largest portion of your night.

  • REM sleep is where most dreaming happens and supports memory, mood, and brain function.

  • Deep sleep is the most restorative stage, important for muscle repair and overall recovery.

  • Awake time includes brief moments of wakefulness during the night, which are totally normal.

The percentages show how much of your total sleep time was spent in each stage.

Sleep Regularity

Regularity reflects how the time you went to sleep last night and woke up this morning compares to your usual routine.

  • Moon symbol: It indicates when you usually go to sleep.

  • Sun symbol: It shows when you usually wake up.

Maintaining consistent sleep and wake times can improve your overall sleep quality. Regular sleep patterns help your body align with its natural rhythms.

Awakenings

This is the number of times you woke up during the night. It’s normal to have some awakenings during sleep, but frequent wake-ups can affect how rested you feel.

Monitoring awakenings helps you understand sleep quality better.

Your 'Typical' shows the average number of times you wake up during a typical night.

Sleep Heart Rate Varibility (HRV)

HRV measures the variation in time between heartbeats, reflecting your parasympathetic activity (e.g., digestion and salivation). Changes from your average HRV may indicate poor sleep quality, stress, or other factors impacting your health.

Monitoring Sleep HRV helps you track how well your body recovers.

Your 'Typical' reflects your average Sleep HRV.
